MCPS Announces Launch of Montgomery Central for Alternative Education Opportunities
Beginning on June 22, MCPS alternative education programs will be housed at Montgomery Central – a new, unified school that combines the previous Rivendell, Independence Secondary and Phoenix programs. Montgomery Central expands the opportunities previously available to students who require non-traditional educational experiences by sharing resources for staff and students.
“Our goal is for every student in Montgomery County to graduate college and career ready,” said Superintendent Brenda Blackburn. “The launch of Montgomery Central will help facilitate this goal even further for our non-traditional students by providing a nurturing environment, positive relationships, high expectations and continuous growth.”
“Our standards for the upcoming school year are high,” said Larry Lowe, program coordinator. “Our dedicated faculty are committed to helping each student reach their full potential.”
“We are excited for this change,” said Elizabeth Kennedy, program coordinator. “Together, our faculty, students and parents can prepare students for success in our communities and their future endeavors.”
Montgomery Central is located at 208 College Street in Christiansburg and the phone number is (540) 381-6100.
