The transportation workgroup met to discuss the impact the change in school start times will have on bus routes and scheduling.
Early pickup time for young children has been the main concern we have heard from elementary parents, so to ensure that no student is picked up before 7 AM, the transportation department has spent many hours evaluating and revising bus routes using the VersaTrans computerized routing program. We only anticipate changes will be necessary for the stop times, but not the bus stop locations.
We’ve also been asked questions about early morning safety at bus stops, but that has always been the parent’s responsibility, even for our current time frame. The safety workgroup will be charged with communicating specific information about bus stop safety and reinforcing elementary drop-off procedures and requirements.
The bus routes will be finalized after we are able to grade advance our students in the data base at the end of the school year. Routes will then be posted much earlier than usual to give parents some additional time to make plans for their child’s new schedule.
