MCPS Childcare Committee met on September 8, 2015

Minutes were presented from the September 8, 2015 meeting.
Frequently Asked Questions, FAQs, were shared and updated.
It was determined to select an article to provide guidance for the parent to decide if their child is mature enough to stay home alone.
The committee was asked to search for an article with suggestions on how to determine when children can stay home alone.
Findings were presented regarding local childcare centers’ interest in serving students before and after school, middle school students, and transportation to and from the schools.
Discussion was held on needs for middle school students and the development of a possible survey for students in grades 5-7.
The committee determined that childcare information posted on the website will not be recommendations from MCPS.
MCPS Childcare Committee met on August 25.
The Childcare Workgroup’s task is to provide information for MCPS families on local childcare availability.
1.The information will include names of childcares, contact information, location, and links if applicable.
2.Information from Virginia Department of Social Services regarding childcare and financial assistance will be listed on the MCPS website as well.
3.A listing of frequently asked questions with answers for families will be posted on the district’s website.
4.The committee will continue to explore childcare needs.
5.The committee will research approximate capacity for before and after school childcare.
