For the second consecutive year, MCPS received the maximum grant money offered in the General Assembly’s School Security Equipment competitive grant program - $100,000. The money will be used to update security at three schools – Belview Elementary, Gilbert Linkous Elementary and Shawsville Middle.
The award will be used to install exterior surveillance cameras, additional electronic door security hardware and uninterrupted power supplies at these three schools.
“Student safety is always a priority for our district,” said Superintendent Brenda Blackburn. “We are grateful to have the opportunity to expand on the security in our schools through this grant program.”
The competitive grant program provides specific funding towards school security systems for school districts that apply. Last year, MCPS received $100,000 to install similar equipment at Blacksburg Middle, Chrsitiansburg High, Christiansburg Middle and Eastern Montgomery High.
