Andy Hipple, assistant principal at Eastern Montgomery High School, was approved as the new principal at Shawsville Middle School at last night’s school board meeting. He will assume his new role on July 1, 2017.
“I am excited to continue serving the Shawsville and Elliston communities at SMS,” said Hipple. “I hope to encourage teachers to be creative in their education process while empowering students to think critically about real-life situations.”
“Mr. Hipple’s student-centered leadership style will be a great benefit to Shawsville Middle as they continue to build their community of success,” said Superintendent Mark Miear.
Hipple received a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania. He has 10 years of teaching experience and 11 years of administrative experience, including three years as a high school principal.
The school board also approved Michaelene Meyer as the administrator of English and language arts curriculum. Meyer has a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education, a master’s degree in elementary and special education, and a doctor of philosophy in educational studies all from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her previous experience includes 13 years of teaching experience and experience as an elementary principal, coordinator of gifted/talented education, supervisor of special education, director of school improvement and professional development, director of elementary education, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, deputy superintendent of instruction, and superintendent of Tazewell County. Meyer will assume her duties on July 1.
